Description

EDIT: After some research into this strange horse, Diego discovered that it was more interesting than originally thought. It turns out Glamour is an Arabian type BL Harlequine, and, after consulting an expert on the breed, it has been discovered that he is descended from Papillon Noir. He has been registered with the number 29.

Yes. I finally gave in. Firelight has its first BL Harlequine. Glamour certainly did not come to the stables looking like this. He was barely recognisable as an elegant Harlequine when he first arrived on the scene.

I was going to do a 'making of' picture that I was really proud of but I think I just deleted it D:

Story
Diego rummaged in his pocket as his phone rang loudly, propping his pitchfork up against the side of Gunner's stall. "Hello?" he said as he pushed his hair out of his face.
"Oh, thank God, Diego, I need your help. I went to look at an old abandoned farm earlier, I think there's something you need to know about," the rushed voice of a woman was on the other end of the phone.
"What sort of thing?" Diego said suspiciously.
"A horse. Oh good Lord I couldn't even get close to it. It's been left in the little barn at Holdyke Farm, you know where that is?"
"Yeah, yeah I know the place. Hasn't that been empty for weeks? How's the thing survived?" Diego frowned to himself and started heading out of the stall.
"I don't know, it must have water in there, but from what I saw there's no food left, and the poor thing's hardly got any meat left on it. Can you do anything about it?"
"I'll head over there now, see if I can save it," Diego said quickly, saying a brief goodbye before hanging up and heading out of the barn. "Celestia! Finish off Gunner's stall. Matt, I need you with me." The two stable hands dashed out of the stalls they had been working in, both looking rather puzzled. Celestia asked no questions as she moved to the barn to muck out Gunner's stall. Matt hopped into the large car that was hooked up to the trailer and looked at Diego with a confused stare.
"What on earth is going on?" He asked quietly, looking slightly worried as his boss struck the engine up quickly and drove out of the yard at a fast pace.
"We've got a problem at an abandoned farm, I need your help getting a tricky animal into the trailer."

The small barn had very little light, a few beams creeping in through the high windows near the roof. Diego peered into the darkness as his eyes adjusted from the bright sunshine. The place stank of dung and was as hot as an oven. Flies buzzed around in an annoying fashion, but Diego barely noticed them as he fixed his gaze on a dejected figure in the far corner. What appeared to be a once beautiful Arabian was stood with its head low and its tail firmly clamped to its rear. The man shuffled a bit closer, keeping his gaze down and his posture non-offensive. The horse noticed him after a while, giving a nervous snort as it shifted even closer to the wall and eyed him up cautiously with untrusting eyes. Diego stopped where he was, not so much as twitching a muscle as he waited for signs that the horse was relaxing again. He had been stood there for a good ten minutes, listening to the heavy breathing of the Arabian, before the horse finally relaxed a bit. Its head lowered again, ears perked forwards in a mild interest, it even went so much as to take a step forwards. A delicate muzzle reached out as doft nostrils flared, taking in the strangers scent. Diego slowly lifted his hand, reaching out in an aim to let the horse sniff. Again, the animal jerked backwards slightly, letting out a hoarse whinny and panicking as its rear hit the wall. Diego glanced up for a moment to assess his own danger before lowering his gaze once more and whispering soothing words, taking a step away from the creature. Again they waited in silence, that laboured breathing the only sound in the darkness.

After another good ten minutes of standing quietly, the horse moved towards Diego, who did not move this time. One cautious step after another, the Arabian moved closer, pausing every so often to make sure the human had not moved. Eventually, its nose nudged Diego's arm gently as they made contact. As they touched the horse stopped moving, simply resting its muzzle on the man's arm, letting out a heavy sigh. "Hey there," Diego said quietly, watching as the horse's ears flickered towards him. "You like sugar lumps, eh?" He muttered, slowly reaching into his pocket and drawing out a small cube of sugar. He did not lift it up to the horse and instead waited for it to take the cube itself. Sure enough it lowered its head to sniff the treat, snuffling it up eagerly when it realised the sugar seemed quite tastey. It soon nudged Diego sharply as it demanding another one, and the man finally looked up at the creature fully. It was huge. It must have been at least 16.3hh. It was primarily black, but it had curious white markings on its face, along with what appeared to be red markings covered by mud. The man took the animal in with his grey eyes, eventually meeting the horse's own crystal clear blue eyes. "What are you?" He whispered, gently touching the horse's neck with his hand. At last, the horse did not shy away, instead leaning into his touch and nuzzling Diego's chest. "Come on, let's get you out of here."

As Diego led the horse out, holding onto it by its matted mane, Matt was stood leant against the truck. "Woah," the younger man said quietly. "Diego, do you realise what that is?"
"A strange horse. Get that ramp down boy," Diego muttered quietly, stroking the horse to calm it as it quivered with anxiety. It was squinting in the light, its ears perked forwards and its nostrils flaring. It had clearly not been outside in a very long time.
"No, seriously, Diego, look at its markings, I'm not kidding, that horse is worth a lot," Matt said lowly as he brought the ramp down. The other man frowned and took a small step back from the horse, looking at the malnourished body in the new light.
"Oh good Lord," he whispered to himself. "That's a Harlequine. Who the hell would leave a Harlequine in a barn?"
"I don't know, but they sure as hell aren't having it back," Matt said as he moved out of the way of the ramp so Diego could lead the horse up. The Harlequine obeyed the man as he tugged softly on the tangled mane, leading the horse up the ramp and into the shade.
"Ring ahead to Chelsea, let her know we've got a difficult horse coming in. He isn't going to like going in a stall," Diego said to Matt as he fastened a headcollar loosely on the horse's face. Well, at least it appeared to have had some sort of training, although the cuts around its mouth suggested that someone had been rather unkind to it. "We'll keep you safe," Diego muttered softly to the horse as he moved back out of the trailer to drive the car back to Firelight.

Poor Clamour. :( On the bright side, at least he now has a great home!
