Description

Cause cats are awesome and are taking over the world!

I also received him as a birthday present from *cyprussian

So this is Milo, a new addition to Firelight who'll be snoozing on the sofa and sunning himself on the yard. He clearly already owns the place.

Story

Previously: [link]

As the horses settled down for the night, a storm rolled into Firelight. It came across the fields as the sun set, its dark clouds looming ominously closer and closer. Lee glanced up at the sky as he headed out to check the horses in the fields. The rain was starting to fall, a few drops at first, but then it quickly became a downpour. Luckily, the man had been prepared, and flicked up the hood of his light summer jacket as he trudged down the paths that led between the fields. The new Ballovali mare, Joh, was stood grumpily with her back to the wind. It wasn't a great first night in her new home, Lee had to admit, but at least she wasn't riled by the oncoming storm. The man stood for a moment to see the mare was okay and then, satisfied, moved on to check the other horses. Most of the horses were huddled under the trees in their paddocks, a few of the braver horses, mainly the Eclectics, grazed still in the pouring rain. The vet finished his round as fast as possible, and was just starting to head back to the stables when he heard a strange noise. He stopped in his tracks, and paused to listen. There it was again, a pitiful cry coming from a nearby water trough. Lee moved over slowly and crouched down to peer under the trough. Sheltering from the rain was a rather bedraggled looking cat, with shocking blue eyes and a long, matted coat. Lee sighed and reached out his hand to the cat. “Hey there,” he said softly as lightning flashed across the sky. The electric charge was soon followed by a deep rumble, that made the cat couch even lower, eyes wide with fright. It appeared to be quite a young cat, and Lee had never seen it before.

Lee clambered over the fence and crouched down again near the trough. “Come here, silly,” he said softly as he reached out. The cat edged away slightly, but the vet managed to hook his arm underneath the small animal and pull him out from underneath the trough. He held the cat close to his own body, unzipping his jacket and then zipping it back over the poor thing. “Now that's better, isn't it?” He said to the cat as he walked back towards the yard, letting himself out through the field gate.

The house was warm and dry, a coal fire burning in the living room to keep things warm and bright. Aithne was curled up on the sofa reading a book, but everyone else appeared to be in bed or elsewhere. She looked up as Lee entered with the wet cat, and raised an eyebrow gently as he took off his coat and sat down in a chair with the animal. “New friend?” She asked as she watched the cat look around at these new surroundings, Lee stroking it gently.
“I found him out in the field,” Lee said quietly, rubbing the cat's head. “He looked cold and a bit worse for ware. I'll let him out again when the storm's cleared up.” The cat started purring gently as it curled up against the man, it's bright blue eyes curious as it looked around.
“Sure,” Aithne said with a smile, “when the storm's over, I'm sure he'll go back outside.” She went back to her book without another word, and Lee grinned to himself. She was probably right, that cat was probably not going anywhere.
