General Info

AESDS is set over a 4-day weekend at Angelus Estate, towards the end of July. The estate is located near Mavis Enderby in Lincolnshire, UK, and set on 212 acres of land. The weather is warm enough over the weekend for your horses to be turned out in the paddocks, which have been cordoned off into smaller paddocks using electric tape. Your horses can either sleep in their assigned paddocks or in your trailers. For special cases, a stable can be assigned to you.

Two vets are on site at all times. Lee Matthews and Michael Moore are on call for all your veterinary needs.

Competitors can arrive and leave as they wish but are more than welcome to stay the full 4 days and enjoy the Estate and all it has to offer, not to mention the exciting classes. International and long-distance competitors can arrive up to 2 weeks before the competition and will be provided with suitable accommodation and veterinary care for their horses.

The weather is varying between a warm 27C and 31C – so it is advised that riders exercise caution and keep themselves and their horses hydrated and cool. The wash stalls will be open at all times for cooling baths after training, exercise, and competing. There is a lake to the North West of the Estate that you can paddle in with your horses, and a river running just past the North border of the Estate where you can let your horse swim. See below for a full weather forecast.

Mavis Enderby is sandwiched between the Lincolnshire Wolds and the flats. If you face North and West, you will see large and steep hills. If you face South and East you will see flat land. Angelus Estate offers extensive hacking tracks through woodland and farmland for your enjoyment. A twenty-minute ride will take you into the Wolds where you can enjoy steep hills and stunning scenery. Local amenities are available just a short drive or ride from the Estate.

Scenery may look like this (but sunny):

The Arenas

The dressage rings have a white dressage fence with plant pots at each marker, and a single white bar, a bit like this but with red plants instead. The bleachers are about 8 rows deep and only along the two long sides. A judging table with a white awning is set up at one end.

The two rings are on either side of the large avenue that runs through the middle of the Estate’s main stable area. Other schools and roundpens are available for practice and exercise.

Ring 1 is on the left, Ring 2 is on the right:
