END DATE: 30th SEPTEMBER

:new: There are now two fawnling divisions! As it wouldn't be fair to put such nimble characters against horses, I thought I'd offer up a separate little thing for fawnlings :) ALL the rules are still the same there's just now fawnling solo and team too  :new:

THERE ARE ONLY TWO CLASSES. YOU ENTER EITHER TEAM OR SOLO AND YOUR RIDER WILL ENTER ALL THE RACES IN THE CLASS. YOU ONLY HAVE TO DRAW ONE IMAGE BUT IT CAN BE ANY OF THE RACES.

So while everyone is turning up to the Angelus Estate for one of HARPG's best Dressage Shows, the staff thought they might as well host a Gymkhana!

The Gymkhana will take place on the Monday after the AESDS award ceremony. I've split this up into two sections, for teams and for solo races. There will be a little prize pot, but mostly this is just a fun art prompt. If people are there to see AESDS and didn't bring a horse with them, they can borrow a Firelight horse! But it's also totally okay if they decided to bring their horses along to enjoy Firelight's 1st class boarding and trail facilities, or to enter AESDS itself!

THIS IS A FUN SHOW. You can draw sketchy, flat coloured images. You will receive an RNG score compiled of 10 sets of numbers from 1-5, so a max score of 50, and another score of 50 compiled out of judging. The judging point breakdown is:
- 20 points - creativity (angle, pose, colour, etc.)
- 10 points - effort (extra horses in the image, drawing obstacles)
- 5 points - drawing a prop being carried by your rider
- 5 points - Promo! Promo this in a journal and you'll get an extra 5 points. Link to the promo journal in your entry image. The journal must be available at the time of judging for the points to count.
- 10 points - Judge's choice! The judge will give you a score from 1-10 based on how much they like your picture, your accompanying story, if it's cute, if it's funny, if it's ridiculous

IF YOUR HORSE IS IN AESDS AND YOU DRAW AN IMAGE FOR THIS, YOU WILL RECEIVE A 5 POINT BONUS IN AESDS FOR THE HORSE IN QUESTION, SEPARATE FROM THE EXTRA IMAGE CAP. I CANNOT STRESS TO YOU HOW MUCH THIS CAN BE MAKE OR BREAK FOR SDS! IF YOUR HORSE IS AN AESDS HORSE, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR AESDS NUMBERS IN YOUR REGISTRATION.

The Classes

You will enter either team or solo races and your horse and rider will enter ALL OF THE RACES IN THAT CATEGORY. So you can draw them doing any of the races that are listed in a category :)

YOU ONLY HAVE TO DRAW ONE IMAGE. You don't have to draw images for all the races but your rider will compete in all the races. In the teams, each member of the team has to draw one image.

I REPEAT. THERE ARE ONLY TWO CLASSES - TEAM AND SOLO. YOUR HORSE AND RIDER WILL ENTER ALL THE RACES IN A CLASS. YOU ONLY HAVE TO DRAW ONE IMAGE.

Team Racing

Get together a team of 3 horses & riders between you and your friends. You can only enter one horse & rider each. Each of you must draw 1 image of your horse and rider, not of every horse and rider in the event, just your own. Of course, you get those extra points for drawing your riders at an relay point with the rest of your team!

Pick a colour for your team and have the colour be visible in the saddle pads or t-shirts or armbands or whatever you want! Make them look like a team! It can even be a costume if you like.

You will be riding in heats if there are a lot of riders, with 6 teams per heat. The winners go through to the next heat until there is one ultimate team.

This is irrelevant to actual scoring: The winner overall is the team with the most points. Points are awarded to teams depending on where they place in the individual race heats. The winning team overall will be the team that scores highest in all the different races.

Your team will take part in the following races against the other teams. You will be running alongside the other teams.

- Flag Race - Grab a flag from one end of the course (they will be stuck upright in a traffic cone) and gallop it back to the other end. The next rider can only set off when your flag is firmly stuck in the receiving traffic cone.

- Mug Race - Gallop up to the other end of the course, lean down and grab a mug from the top of a upside-down bucket, and race back. You must hang the mug on top of a pole at the other end before the next rider can set off.

- Weaving Race - Go as fast as you can down the course and weave through 10 poles. Turn at the top and race straight back down to tag in your next team mate. You must turn at the top of the course around a plastic barrel.

- Drag Race - A fast paced race up and down the course, as fast as you can. You will be carrying a small metal baton. To tag your next teammate in, you must pass the baton to them, like a human relay race. You must turn at the top of the course around a plastic barrel.

- Sack race - A shorter run up the course to dismount and pick up your hessian sack. Get in the sack and hop back to your team with your horse in tow. Don't let go of your horse!

Solo Racing

You will be racing solo against other solo riders who are taking part. You can do this as well as the Team Racing but you must use a different horse as it is very tiring. Again, you get extra points for drawing the other riders you are up against! You will be riding in heats for each race if there are a lot of riders, with 6 riders per heat. The winners go through to the next heat until there is one ultimate rider.

This is irrelevant to actual scoring: The winner overall is the rider with the most points. Points are awarded to riders depending on where they place in the individual race heats. The winning pair overall will be the pair that scores highest in all the different races.

- Flag Race - Just as above, grab a flag from one end of the course (from the traffic cone) and race back down to the other end. Your time is clocked when your flag is securely in the last cone.

- Weaving Race - Weave up the course through the poles as fast as possible and then race straight back down again. The first back wins. If you miss a pole you have to circle back and take the pole again.

- Drag Race - A race straight up and back again as fast as you can. You must turn around a plastic barrel at the top of the course.

- Sack Race - A short run up the course to a hessian sack where you must dismount. Climb into the sack and hop the rest of the way to the end of the course with your horse in tow. Don't let him go!

- Apple Bobbing - Race to the bottom of the course, dismount, fish an apple out of the bucket with your mouth, mount your horse again, and ride back. Keep a hold of the apple (NOT IN YOUR MOUTH) and drop it into your bucket at the finish line.

- Fancy Dress - Race to the bottom and dismount. Dive into the clothes bin at the bottom and pull on any item of these descriptions - A hat, a shirt, some trousers, a scarf/tie. A dress counts as both a shirt and trousers. There are some ridiculous clothes in the bin. Mount your horse and race back, keeping your hat in place.

The Location

This takes place in a field to the East of the estate. The course is set up as 6 straight lines with turning areas marked out in short round cones (y'know the kind they use in gym class?). The course is probably only 350 yards long.

Crowds can gather on either side of the course.

The Prizes

  • Ribbon for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place
  • Participation ribbon for runners up
  • A pointless gymkhana trophy to brag about for 1st place
  • Flat coloured headshot of your horse for 1st place (team and solo) by mapal
  • Sketchy headshot of your horse for 2nd place (team and solo) by mapal
  • 50 :points: to 1st place winners
  • Custom Markhorse import (except springbok) for 1st place
  • Any prize donations are welcome!

The Rules

This is a fun show but there are a few rules!
  • Your image must be flat coloured but can be sketchy
  • Your image must show the full horse and rider
  • You can enter both team and solo races but please don't enter a horse in both. It's hot and it could be too much for them. One set of races is enough exercise.
  • No powers can be used.
  • You can not have more than one horse and rider pair on a team but you can join in multiple teams. Teams should consist of 3 separate artists. If this proves to be too much trouble I may alter this rule, let me know.
  • Riders must wear helmets. Sorry but it's high speed around other horses. H&S in England is a b****
  • You can enter up to four horses in total, across both team and solo events.
  • Your riders can fall off and it won't affect your score. All sorts of stuff happens in Gymkhana so it wouldn't be surprising!

This might sound weird, but you MUST register for this. Even if you might not draw anything, please register. Your horse and rider may be drawn by other people and it adds to the sense of an actual fun competition. If your horse and rider will be there, please fill out the form below and put it in the comments on this journal. If you don't draw an image, you'll just be counted as a loss and everyone will place above you. It's fine, just please register xD You might get pretty pictures out of it. This is a community event.

For teams, just submit the one form with all the riders and horses in it.
